Choosing straight quilting rulers

Compare width, length and markings independently.

The 1 × 6-inch Creative Grids rule fits short seams. A 24-inch ruler is for much longer cutting paths. A wide Omnigrip covers more fabric without necessarily making the cutting edge longer. A centered rule helps place a motif before you cut.

Check clearance on the mat.

Support the ruler and fabric over the full cut. Select a marked slotted ruler when you need repeated widths and prefer keeping the guide in place. Keep a straight edge for cuts outside the slot positions.
