Block and shape dies

Choose the die by the finished unit and the method you use. A Qube base kit contains numbered shapes that work together at a block size. A companion set adds pieces to a particular base system. A specialty die for English paper piecing can cut a paper core and its fabric shape.

Choosing block and shape dies

Check what the box actually does.

An 8-inch or 10-inch Qube makes pieces that combine into blocks of that finished size. The individual pieces are smaller. A 12-inch Corners or Angles companion adds a group of shapes for the 12-inch base. Use the shape numbers in your pattern before ordering a second kit.

Confirm fit for the entire kit.

A compatible machine must accept all boards you intend to use. Match the mat to each board and consult the exact product page if a chart and listing disagree.

Department questions

Does a Qube box include the machine?

The Qube is a die system. Check exact contents and supply a compatible cutter separately.

When should I add a companion?

Add one if your pattern calls for shapes outside the base set, and match its block scale.

What is the advantage of an EPP die?

Compare it when you want repeated paper and fabric shapes and already have a matching machine and mat.
